Electric Surge Protection
Why should you think about installing a Surge Protection Device on your home or business?
We often think of surge protection as the little plug strips we have throughout the house. But they only protect the things plugged in. What about the things we use everyday that are not protected? That's why we always want you to consider a whole home surge protector.

In a storm if your house is ever struck by lightning it can be quite dangerous and can end up destroying many things around the house. We can install surge protection on any existing service, or with any panel or service upgrade with Bowman Electric it comes with a Surge Protection Device (SPD).
This Device protects your home and appliances from the possible voltage spikes, a voltage spike is an unintended increase in voltage over the standard 120 volts that most appliances and electronics use. These spikes can come from the utility service or from within the home. These spikes are often unnoticeable and generally don't do much damage. A good example is if you’ve ever noticed the lights dim, that is an example of an internal surge from an appliance turning on or using more power than normal.

When we install the SPD device on the main service panel of a home they work much like the ones that we have throughout the house but are made to protect the whole home. We often use surge protectors to protect our expensive electronics. But surges and voltage spikes can shorten the lifespan of electronic devices or appliances. Around the kitchen it is easy to see how many appliances are at risk in the home if a surge should happen.

What most homeowners don’t know and generally never want to find out is that most insurance policies don’t cover damage caused by lightning strikes. Another way that major surges can happen at your home are from downed power lines. When the utility company is able to repair the lines it could deliver a high voltage surge. Many of the SPD devices offered by Bowman Electric come with a minimum of a 5,000 dollar connected equipment warranty. Many offer up to 25,000 dollars for a connected equipment warranty.
